Its mountain peaks covered with clouds reach 1862 meters high. This mountain range protects Madeira's south side from strong winds, making the weather nice and warm.
The island is famous for its tropical climate and wine. The main island, Madeira, attracts the tourists with its endemic forest - Laurissilva - tall peaks, pebble beaches, as well as pictoresque villages by the sea. In Madeira's capital - Funchal - it is worthwhile to visit the pretty gardens and downtown.
