Madeira is the biggest island in the Archipelago. Its area reaches 742 square km. With 57km of length and 22km of width. The island is of volcanic origin. Its mountain peaks covered with clouds reach 1862 meters high. This mountain range protects Madeira's south side from strong winds, making the weather nice and warm.

The island is famous for its tropical climate and wine. The main island, Madeira, attracts the tourists with its endemic forest - Laurissilva - tall peaks, pebble beaches, as well as pictoresque villages by the sea. In Madeira's capital - Funchal - it is worthwhile to visit the pretty gardens and downtown.
